2025 Next Act! New Play Summit

Nicole will be reading for Madison in “Good Vibes Only” by Jill Twiss and Lillian in “Mrs. Whitman’s Words for Women” by Shayne Kennedy in Capital Rep’s 14th Annual Next Act! New Play Summit for their FIRST 15 readings.

Direction: Yvonne Perry

What is the FIRST 15? This event is curated to mirror the reading process theREP's NEXT ACT! Reading Committee Members encounter, specifically those involved in the first round of the reading process. It also simulates what most Literary Managers encounter: "Read a synopsis and the first 10-pages of the script, and 'decide' whether or not you want to request the full script from the playwright." Did the plot grab you? Are the characters interesting and well developed? Does the dialogue ring true to you? Do you want to know what happens next...? The pieces selected for the FIRST 15 are scripts that rose to the top but ultimately were not selected for a full reading this year. The event also provides theREP with the opportunity to get to know and work with more playwrights.

Closing The World of Pure Imagination... For Now

Tonight, we would have closed "Charlie and the Chocolate Factory" in Tulsa, OK. I decided to have everyone send me a selfie since we never got a full company shot (we're missing a few friends, but this is our big old traveling family!) March 12th, Charlie played its final performance in Grand Rapids, MI without anyone knowing what would happen next. This company didn't get as much time as we expected together, but I truly would not change this experience for the world and I cross my fingers every day that I get to reunite with them when the factory gates reopen with more "wonder" than EVER. VERY special shoutout to Matt Lenz, Ali Solomon, Nate Patten, Natalie Malotke, Anthony Daniel, Jack O’Brien, Joshua Bergasse, Stewart/Whitley Casting, and NETworks Productions for putting this crew together because DAMN this is a special bunch.
